Summer is long gone, but that doesn’t mean you should slack off on your skin care routine. That’s a big mistake. Nature and normal activities cause problems all year long.
The sun never goes away, so you need to protect your skin from its UV rays daily. Even in the winter, you should apply sunscreen or makeup with sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every two hours.
Don’t overlook your lips. The skin on the lips is more vulnerable to sun damage than the skin on the rest of your face and head. The constant licking also creates a unique need for sun protection and moisturizers that are safe to ingest. Remember to apply the right lip protection at least once an hour to keep your lips healthy and protected.
Oh wait, what about your eyes? Sun exposure can increase the risk of cataracts, cancer, and snow blindness. In the city or on the slopes, wear sunglasses or goggles that block at least 99% of UV rays. Like everything in life, looks don’t matter. Darker lenses don’t necessarily work best. Make sure your shades have a tag or sticker that says they block at least 99% of UV rays, “UV absorption up to 400nm.” or “Meets ANSI UV Requirements.” Blocking harsh winds is another benefit of wearing sunglasses and goggles in winter.
The wind, sun, and indoor heat rob the skin of moisture. Good old-fashioned petroleum jelly is an affordable way to protect the skin.
Dehydration is a risk, even in cold months. Your body loses fluids after hours in dry indoor heat or moving around bundled up outside. To stay hydrated, remember to drink or eat foods with lots of fluids, like cucumbers, berries, and tomatoes. This will help you maintain your skin’s moisture and overall health during the winter.
Remember, just because it isn’t hot outside doesn’t mean you should relax on sun protection and hydration. Take care of your body throughout the winter, and your body will take care of you all year.
