The holidays are behind us, and spring is around the corner. Still, the final few weeks of winter can feel long and gray. Even if the days are short and chilly, this season can still bring energy, connection, and joy.
It’s easy to slow down and lose focus on your health when it’s cold outside, but you can turn that around with a few simple habits. Try these ideas to make the last stretch of winter feel refreshing and fun.
Make self-care a priority. Do small things that make you happy every day. That might mean enjoying your morning coffee, watching a favorite show, or planning a weekend trip to look forward to.
Get moving. Exercise is one of the best ways to boost your “happy hormones,” including dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins. Go for a walk, try snowshoeing or skiing, or have a spontaneous snowball fight with friends.
Be mindful. Take a few minutes to breathe, stretch, or write in a journal. Yoga and meditation can help you stay centered when life feels busy or the weather feels gloomy.
Stay connected. It’s tempting to stay in when it’s cold, but spending time with others can lift your spirits. Meet up with friends and family for workouts, sledding, game nights, and coffee talks to stay social and positive.
Little by little your energy and mood will rise. The short days of winter are almost over, and brighter ones are on the way. Enjoy this time for what it is – a chance to reset, recharge, and get ready for spring.
