March is National Nutrition Month®, and this year’s theme is “Discover the Power of Nutrition.” It’s a great time to learn how food choices affect your health — and to take small steps that make a big difference. This month is a great chance to learn how food choices support your health and energy. Even small changes can make a real difference. Each week in March focuses on a simple nutrition idea you can try in everyday life.

Week 1: Power Your Day with Nutrition

Start the month by paying attention to what you eat and drink. Try to include foods from all the food groups, such as fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy or alternatives. Eating a variety of foods helps your body get the nutrients it needs.

Week 2: Find Advice Backed by Science

This week is about learning from trusted nutrition sources. There is a lot of food advice online, and not all of it is reliable. Aim for meals that are colorful and balanced. Be cautious of quick-fix fad diets that cut out major food groups without a clear health reason. These plans can make it harder to get enough nutrients.

Look for information that is based on science, not trends. You can also consider talking with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). An RDN can offer guidance that fits your goals, lifestyle, and needs. Celebrate National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day on March 11th this year!

Week 3: Stay Nourished on Any Budget

Eating well doesn’t have to be expensive. This week focuses on cooking and meal-planning skills that work with your budget. Planning ahead can help reduce stress and food waste.

You can also explore local resources like food assistance programs or community gardens. Celebrating nutrition can include discovering affordable fruits and veggies you haven’t tried before! Trying affordable fruits and vegetables that are new to you can make meals more interesting and enjoyable.

Week 4: Feel Good with Healthy Habits

In the final week of March, focus on building habits that help you feel your best. Practice food safety at home and plan meals ahead when possible. These steps can save time and lower stress.

Healthy habits also include movement that you enjoy. Walking, dancing, or bike riding all count. Choose activities that fit your life and make you feel good.
