With summer upon us and gardens growing strong, herbs should become a staple in your dishes. They are easy to grow and equally as easy to use! Incorporate fresh herbs food preparation in place of using other forms of seasoning. They pack a powerful flavor punch and can take the place of using salt without sacrificing the flavor.
If you aren’t growing them in your garden, purchase fresh herbs at the grocery store. Once you pick or buy them, wash them in a salad spinner, then wrap them in a damp paper towel for storage in an airtight container or a sealed plastic bag for up to three weeks in your refrigerator.
Fresh herbs are both flavorful and provide many health benefits: providing important cancer-fighting cells, combating irritable bowel syndrome, and helping with inflammation. Most herbs are high in Vitamins A, C, and K. Types of fresh herbs include parsley, mint, basil, rosemary, chives, dill, cilantro, oregano, sage, and thyme.
