Focusing on eating foods that have antioxidants can help fight disease from the inside out. Antioxidants play a crucial role in assisting cells in fighting off things in the body that can damage. In addition, they help to protect, repair and help build healthy cells.

Several micronutrients act as antioxidants.  For example, minerals like copper, zinc, selenium, and manganese, along with vitamins such as Vitamins A, C, and E, are all classified as antioxidants. Other “buzz” words that indicate a food contains an antioxidant are: anthocyanins, flavonoids, lignans, or lycopene.

Because the list of antioxidants is long, you can find them in a variety of foods. Most produce contains some antioxidants, and different colors of produce offer different types of antioxidants. Things like tea, dark bitter chocolate, seafood, milk, and nuts all contain them too.

Eating various foods, including lots of produce, can help increase the amounts of antioxidants you get in your diet, helping build healthy cells and keeping your body healthy from the inside out!
